This is a document made by the Government of West Bengal, called “West Bengal Services (Appointment, Probation and Confirmation) Rules, 1979”. It is meant to help government employees understand how their job appointments, probation periods, and confirmations work. New employees start on a temporary basis and after two years, they enter a one-year probation period. If they do well during that year, they will be confirmed in their job. However, these rules don’t apply to certain workers such as those on part-time or casual positions. The document explains how the previous rules are affected by these new ones. The rules were made under Article 309 of the Indian Constitution.
